Fresh data about your city, county and state, including federal spending

By SB Anderson

The Census Bureau this week updated one of its very handy sites — State and County QuuickFacts —  to include 2010 total federal expenditures, fresh population estimates for 2011 by age, race and Hispanic origin, and housing unit/building permit data.

You can drill down online to the local level or download the data and analyze it yourself.

The site also includes a link to the bureau’s handy overall federal state and local governments page, as well as the Consolidated Federal Funds database. For the CFR, you could explore online (e.g., get the total defense spending for your county) or download all data for by agency, county and program. Bring your CAR skills if you want to tackle the latter.
