Visualizing the enormous backlog in veterans’ claims

The Center for Investigative Reporting continues the great job it has been doing exposing the staggering backlog of claims for disability and other services by U.S. veterans. Two images from its latest report released on Monday tell the story. 

The first, is below. The cutline: “In August, the VA’s inspector general said the weight of paper files at the agency’s Winston-Salem, N.C., office had compromised the structural integrity of the building.”
