When your own FOIA request gets redacted

  1. Emily Willard of National Security Archive submits FOIA request to the Defense Intelligence Agency for information on Mexican drug cartel arrests.
  2. DIA forwards it to the National Security Agency because it has a related document.
  3. The NSA responds to Willard (denying the request) and includes a copy of her original FOIA request — tada! — redacted!  (Here’s the PDF)
