The Military Reporters and Editors association (full disclosure: it’s based at the Medill Washington Program) has sent an official letter of criticism to the Defense Department for violating its own rules on embedding reporters – to allow unbiased coverage in the war zone.
The group denounced DOD for denying or rescinding an embed for Rolling Stone reporter Michael Hastings based “a vague and unsupportable allegation” when the real reason, of course, is his article that caused the firing of Gen. Stanley McChrystal.
Good for MRE for taking a stand on this important issue of access.
I wish more media organizations would chime in.
