Research Aims to Make Military Meals, Ready to Eat Tastier

mre2_175Our military’s meals have to be hardy enough to withstand high temperatures and rough conditions, but also nutritious and, ideally, tasty. Researchers at NC State are working on that last element, experimenting with new ways to extract and infuse flavors into meals, ready to eat. Renee Elder of the News and Observer reports.

 

Dogs Killed in Combat to Be Recognized by NC Memorial

Advocates for military dogs killed in action have successfully lobbied for and funded a memorial to the canines on the grounds of the Airborne Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville, NC. Construction for the memorial was scheduled to break ground in early June. TV Station News 14 Carolina reports on the plans.

 

Military Widows Get Help From Texas Property Tax Bill

houseforsale150If approved by voters, a new Texas law will give military widows a break on their property taxes. Gov. Rick Perry signed the bill in late May, saying “Though no words and actions can heal the wounds of combat or return a lost loved one, Texas is honored to give back to veterans and their families.” Sarah Rafique of the Killeen Daily Herald tells the story of the law and a military widow who was active in creating the legislation.
